'Healthy Living', Sundays 6-8pm.
For everything related to health and well being.

  • Latest news on health issues that affect you
  • Stories from patients
  • Updates on available services
  • Phone-ins, text line and email for your questions answered.
Tune into 'Healthy Living' on Radio Ujima on Sunday 29 November - 6-8pm, 98FM , listen online or via Paltalk.

This coming Sunday we start the show with Dr Andrea Malizia, senior lecturer at the University of Bristol in Psychopharmacology and Consultant Psychiatrist for University Hospitals Bristol, North Bristol Trust and Avon and Wiltshire Partnership Trust (Mental Health). Dr Malizia will be telling us about a fascinating clinical trial which aims to establish whether hydrocortisone can help people with depression. As well as outlining the practicalities and aims of the trial, Dr Malizia will also be covering the topic of depression in a more general way and answering listeners’ questions. So if you have something which you would like to ask please text your question to Mandy the presenter (07973 116231), before Sunday. Please start your text with the word depression. Alternatively you can tune in and submit questions on the night via Paltalk (see box below).

Afterwards Mandy will be joined in the studio by staff from the Bristol charity Off The Record, which provides counselling, information and support to people aged 11-25. Charity director Simon Newitt, support worker Charlotte Randomly and participation and rights worker Laura Brain will be telling listeners all about both planned and emergency help available through this self-referral service as we approach a time of year when young people can find themselves particularly in need of a listening ear.
Contact details for Off The Record are: 0808 808 9120.
Open Monday 9.30-5, Tuesday and Wednesdays 9.30-8, Thurs 9.30-1.30.

I have had a fascinating and enjoyable 18 months building this project; its ongoing production is now being taken on by Gemma Myers, Communications and Administration Assistant in NHS Bristol’s communications team. Gemma can be contacted on gemma.myers@bristolpct.nhs.uk or telephone 0117 984 1580. Please do get in touch with Gemma if you have any suggestions for future shows or if you or someone you know might like to be a guest. Don’t forget that we have a notices section at the end of each show for any health-related notes, dates and snippets. All contributions welcome.

The star of the show, Mandy, will of course continue in the studio hotseat as presenter and has a growing fan club, not only in Bristol but also internationally. The show is now streamed live via a chat room on Paltalk (easy to find on google) – so we are beaming out our health messages far and wide.

In the short term I am moving on to another project at South Plaza on Wednesdays - for Bristol Equality Health Partnership - to write and design Equality Update. So please do get in touch if you would like to suggest a story for that…
